What matters to you about Three Rivers? What makes it unique?

What do you want to keep, change, and improve for the future?

How can we make sure the way we tackle climate change makes our district an even better place to live?

How can the council and communities work together to make it happen?

We need ‘conversation starters’ to speak to family, friends and neighbours about the future of Three Rivers District to shape how your district responds to climate change.

We’re looking for 20 people to have conversations with their friends, family, colleagues and neighbours about the future of Three Rivers District. We want to understand what’s important to local people and what we should keep and protect as we prepare for the impacts of climate change.

Participants will come together over four days to take part in training, have conversations in your communities, and share back what you're hearing.

The results of your work will influence the council’s Climate Emergency and Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan. This will make sure that Three Rivers District Council’s actions to reduce the district’s emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change focuses on what’s important to local people.

What’s involved?

Over one evening and three weekend days in February and March, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet other people from across the district
  • Learn about climate change and solutions to it
  • Receive training to have conversations about the future of Three Rivers
  • Speak to friends, family and neighbours about what’s important to them about Three Rivers
  • Share back what you’re hearing with the group
  • Shape how the council and citizens can both act to reduce emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change

As a thank you for taking part, you will receive £15 per hour (=£390 in total). This can be paid as a bank transfer or in vouchers.

If you receive benefits, it is your decision about whether or not to accept this thank you gift, as it may affect your benefits. Please speak to your benefits advisor for advice if you're unsure. You are welcome to take part without accepting the gift if you wish to do so.

We will also cover reasonable travel expenses and other accessibility or caring needs you might have e.g. childcare costs.

If you want to learn more about the project, you can drop in to one of our information webinars on January 9th from 5:30pm - 6:30pm or January 14th from 10am-11am.

When and where?

All sessions will take place in person at an accessible venue in Three Rivers District on:

  • Thursday, 20 February 5.30pm - 8.00pm
  • Saturday, 22 February 10.00am - 4.00pm
  • Saturday, 15 March 10.00am - 4.00pm
  • Sunday, 16 March 10.00am - 4.00pm

All travel costs will be reimbursed and food and refreshments will be available. You must be able to attend all sessions in order to apply.

Who can sign up?

Anyone aged 18-55 living in Three Rivers District is welcome to apply. No knowledge or experience is necessary — all training will be provided. Our aim is to bring together a broad mix of 20 people from across the district.

If you’re not sure if you should apply, please do! We’re keen to hear from people who have never done anything like this before.
